“Behind the Mask” by John Marco Lorezco

Medium: Oil Pastel on 8.5′ x 5.5′ Bond Paper; Mechanical Pencil

Artist’s Statement: “Behind the Mask” is a painting depicting the journey of my first year in UP. First, it is not easy to pretend that you are okay and it is not also easy to laugh when you are feeling an extreme sadness. The mask is the symbol I used which suits on the word ‘pretend’. Second, the mask is broken, that means the mask has survived problems and storms in UP life. What is more important to know behind this painting is that how determined the man, how faithful and intelligent he is to handle problems while studying at the number one university in the Philippines. Life will never be easy in UP. It is just either you try again or you give up.
